The Arsenal rebel has been offered a stunning £505,000-a-week, four-year deal at Old Trafford.

And it means that City will miss out on a player that they agreed a £60m deal to sign in the summer, only to see it fall through at the 11th hour.

When asked if he felt let down by Sanchez, Guardiola said: "I repeat, the players and their managers decide what's best for both.

"There's nothing to add, my opinion of Alexis remains the same – a pleasure at Barca and he's going to decide to move on to another club and I wish him all the best.

"I'm not the guy with the mathematics, the numbers. At the end, what I know is he is still at Arsenal.

"I think he will go to United, congratulations for both of them, the players and their managers decide where they want to play, good luck."

Guardiola was wary of disrupting the balance of his squad by bringing in Sanchez in January.

He feared that it might spark the kind of meltdown Newcastle experienced when they tossed away a 12-point lead after the arrival of Tino Asprilla.

Guardiola was coy when asked directly, claiming the club only want to bring in "nice people".

He added: "All the players around the world, when you take players in winter to improve and to achieve their goals, that's all.

"Always I believe, if the players adapt quickly and they're quality, it depends if they are nice people.

"We are looking for nice people to come to help if we believe we need them."

With Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph injured, Guardiola needs a left-back.

He added: "Right now, in the next weeks, we have a problem.

"We've had it all season, we started with just one (left) full-back because we had spent enough money on other full-backs.

"We knew that, now the problem with Fabian we aremgoing to see how we solve it. Not just for two games – it will be longer.

"In these situations, it depends on the mentality of the players, if they can make a step forward.

"If can they play in positions that are not natural positions and the other guys help them. When they play in natural positions, everything is going well."
